Working on a grade

Steep driveways and lake access roads change routine jobs. A tire change needs level ground, because a jack on a slope under a loaded car is genuinely dangerous. On a grade the correct answer is often to move the vehicle before touching it.

The same applies to loading. A flatbed needs a reasonably level run to tilt its deck and winch a car up, and a steep drive can make that impossible from one direction while being fine from the other. Saying that the drive is steep, and which way it falls, is worth doing on the phone.

The interstate frontage carries the commuter traffic and the 35Express rebuild continues north through this stretch. Lane closures, shifting alignments and construction debris all apply here as they do further south.

If you break down on the interstate itself rather than in the town, say which direction you were traveling. The frontage road system and the barrier mean a truck cannot cross over, so northbound and southbound are separate journeys and it changes the arrival time.
